Reporting agent authorization (Form 8655)

  • Updated

What is Form 8655?

Form 8655 - Reporting Agent Authorization is a required legal IRS document to be signed by an owner or corporate officer authorizing OnPay to file and deposit taxes on behalf of their company. Without a Form 8655 on file, OnPay cannot enroll you in an Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS), or make calls to the IRS on your behalf. Failure to complete this form may result in the form's rejection by the IRS, and cause an undue delay in processing.

What signing the form allows OnPay to do

  • Sign and file certain returns
  • Make deposits and payments for certain returns
  • Receive duplicate copies of tax information, notices, and other written and/or electronic communication regarding any authority granted
  • Provide IRS with information to aid in penalty relief determinations related to the authority granted on Form 8655
  • We know that sometimes the person setting up OnPay isn't the same person who needs to sign Form 8655. If the owner or decision maker responsible for the business isn't available to sign when setting up OnPay, you can skip this step. If this is the case, we'll still need this signature, so it's important that you submit a support request* telling us you've skipped Form 8655. Our team will email you a copy of the form that can be signed digitally and returned to us.

*You'll need to enter your OnPay login credentials to submit a request. This is to protect your account and company information.
