Worksites

  • Updated

Worksites represent physical locations where employees and contractors perform work. If you have multiple worksites, start by entering the company's main location. You'll be able to add others later.

Always use the address helper

When adding a Worksite, the address you enter determines what state and local tax information you're prompted to enter. To ensure the correct tax information is used to calculate payroll tax obligations and rates, always use the address helper when entering a street address. This does a lot more than just auto-populate the address field. Behind the scenes, it's using an exact geolocation to identify payroll tax liabilities. Failure to use the address helper may result in missing or incorrect location data when calculating tax obligations.

Adding other Worksites

Once you've created your first worksite, you can add other worksites, if needed. Enter all locations where your employees perform work.

If you have employees working in another state, or a city where taxation is different than your main location, it’s important to indicate these worksites here. Different states/localities have unique tax implications, so this info helps ensure we get the payroll taxes right for every employee.

Is it really that important to use the address helper?

Yes. It really is. Here's why:

This is West Trindle Road, Mechanicsburg, PA, 17055. The orange and blue houses that line each side of the road are all in the same city, county, zip code, school district, and their street addresses are sequentially numbered. Despite these similarities, the orange houses are located in the Township of Silver Spring, and the blue houses are in the Township of Monroe. This means that residents on one side of the street have a .1% higher tax rate for the Cumberland Valley School District EIT.

Do you pay workers in multiple states?

You'll need to enter your state tax information for each state where you pay employees. You'll find this option in Payroll>Set up>Payroll Taxes. You'll see a tab for each state where you have a worksite. Each will have its own state and local tax fields for entering employer IDs and rates, and in some cases, setting contribution amounts. These fields are determined by the addresses entered when creating Worksites, and where applicable, employee home addresses.
