How to pay a bonus

  • Updated

Adding a bonus to an employee's check is easy. Bonuses can be included in regular pay runs, or be processed as a special pay run. If you're paying a year end bonus, make sure you've covered everything so it goes smoothly.

Pay run settings

If this bonus is part of a special pay run, you may want to withhold elected deductions. You can do this by clicking on any of the current pay run settings at the top.

Here, you can hold deductions, or even process them as paper checks instead of direct deposit.

When entering hours, you can also add a bonus. If you don't see a bonus available under "Pay Type", you may need to add it from your available Pay Items.

If this bonus is not part of a regular pay run, you'll want to either uncheck their salary pay, or zero out their hours, depending on how they're paid.

You also have the option to override deductions and withholdings, and even preview an employee’s check.

Don't worry, if you feel you've made a mistake, you can always reset any changes or overrides you’ve made to these hours by clicking the yellow wand button.
