Clocking in and out for work

  • Updated

If your employer uses OnPay for time tracking, you can clock in and out for work in the OnPay app on your smartphone, but that's only the beginning.

You also have access to:

  • Track your on-the-clock hours using weekly time cards
  • Add comments your manager can see and respond to
  • Fix missing or incorrect punches

Download the app

If you haven't already, download the OnPay Mobile app for iOS or Android.

Clocking in

When you log into OnPay, you'll see a tile on your homepage with a running clock.

Click Clock In to create a timestamped entry on your time card. This type of time card entry is commonly called a "punch", in reference to mechanical punch clocks with paper time cards.

When you're clocked in, your time clock is bordered in green, and will display how long you've been on the clock, with options to clock out or take a break.

  • Always log out of OnPay before walking away from any computer, even your own. Failure to do so may allow others to access personal information in your OnPay account.

Taking breaks during your shift

You can start and end rest (paid) and meal (unpaid) breaks to your time card while remaining clocked in. This helps you keep track of how long you've been on a break, so you can return on time.

Starting a break

Click Take A Break, and select the type of break you're taking:

  • Meal (Unpaid)
  • Rest (Unpaid)
  • Rest (Paid)

While on a break, your time clock tile is orange, and displays how long you've been on break, with the option to end the break.

Click End Break when it's time to resume work.

Clocking out

At the end of your shift, it's time to click Clock Out. Your hours and breaks for this shift are detailed your time card for the week.

Your time card will also document any overtime hours worked during the week (based on federal or state overtime laws). This is why it's important to promptly clock in and out when starting and ending your shifts.
