Enter Minnesota SUI rates

For OnPay to effectively calculate state tax contributions, you'll need to ensure the tax rates entered in OnPay are correct for each state where your company has a tax obligations. For example, if you operate in both Minnesota and Wisconsin, you must keep payroll tax information up-to-date for each (and every) state where you pay employees.

What you'll need

  • Minnesota SUI Account Number
  • Minnesota SUI rate
  • Minnesota Development Assessment rate

Where to find your SUI tax information

Refer to the most recent Unemployment Insurance (UI) Tax Rate Determination you received from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development.

  • Your Employer Account Number can be found in the upper right of the first page
  • Your Minnesota UI Rate is listed on the first page, after "Your UI tax rate:"
  • Your Minnesota Workforce Development Assessment rate is listed on the first page, under "Assessments"

Minnesota recently reinstated the Additional Assessment Tax (inactive from 2014-1/1/2025), with a rate of 5% and a wage base of $43,000. Do not enter this rate in OnPay. This tax is automatically applied and reported.

Where to enter your rate in OnPay

In the Payroll tab, click Set up, then Payroll Taxes.

Note: If you pay employees in multiple states, you'll find each state listed under "Payroll Taxes". Select a state to enter your state tax information.

Don't see "Set up" in the Payroll tab?
If you haven't updated to the newest version of OnPay's navigation menu, look for "Payroll Taxes" in the Company tab. More about nested navigation→

 

Use the Update buttons to enter your Minnesota SUI and Workforce Development Assessment Rates separately.

Do not enter your Additional Assessment Tax rate in OnPay. This tax is automatically applied.

Set SUI Rate

Using the pop-up calendar, select the effective date for your SUI rate as indicated in your notice, then enter your SUI rate as a percent in the next field.

Click Save when you're done.

 

Set WEF Rate

Using the pop-up calendar, select the effective date for your WEF rate as indicated in your notice, then select your WEF rate from the menu.
