For OnPay to effectively calculate state tax contributions, you'll need to ensure the tax rates entered in Onpay are correct for each state where your company has a tax obligations. For example, if you operate in both Hawaii and Washington, you must keep payroll tax information up-to-date for each and every state where you pay employees.
What you'll need
- Hawaii Department of Labor Account Number
- Hawaii SUI Contribution rate
- Hawaii Temporary Disability Insurance rate (if applicable)*
- Hawaii Employment and Training Assessment rate
Where to find your SUI tax information
Refer to the most recent Employer Tax Rate Notice you received from the Hawaii Department of Labor.
- Your Hawaii DOL Number is listed as "Account Number" in the upper right
- Your Hawaii SUI rate is listed as "CONTRIBUTION RATE" in decimal format
- Your Employment Training Fund Assessment rate is listed as "E & T ASSESSMENT RATE"
- These rates must be entered separately in OnPay
- *If you pay into a Temporary Disability Insurance plan, a contribution rate will be assigned to you by your policy provider
Where to enter your rate in OnPay
Go to Company, then Payroll Taxes.
Do you pay employees in multiple states?
If so, select Hawaii under "Payroll Taxes".
Use the Update buttons to enter your Hawaii SUI rate, Temporary Disability Insurance rate*, and your Administrative Assessment rate separately. All rates must be entered as percents (Ex: .0000 = 00.00%).
Hawaii SUI Rate
For Hawaii SUI Rate, select the "Effective Date" indicated in your notice using the pop-up calendar, then enter your rate as a percent in the next field.
Click Save when you're done.
Hawaii Temporary Disability Insurance Rate
If you're an employer who pays into a Temporary Disability Insurance plan, a contribution rate will be assigned to you by your policy provider. If this is the case, select the policy period start date using the pop-up calendar, then select your rate from the list.
Click Save when you're done.
IMPORTANT: OnPay does not collect or pay Temporary Disability Insurance
Only enter an amount in this field if you have a temporary disability insurance policy through an insurance policy provider. OnPay will calculate your contributions with each pay run based on the amount you enter here. These calculated amounts are not included in pay run drafts, and remain in your bank account for you to use to pay your insurance provider. You can find these calculated amounts listed as "Hawaii SDI" in your payroll reports.
Hawaii Employment Training Fund Assessment Rate
Click the edit pencil and select the "Effective Date" indicated in your Contribution rate Notice using the pop-up calendar, then select your rate from the list.
Click Save when you're done.
