Guide to paid sick leave by state

  • Updated

Are you required by your state to offer your employees paid sick leave, or paid family medical leave? More and more states are requiring employers to offer paid sick leave, or paid family and medical leave, allowing employees to use paid time off to get better, stay healthy, or help a loved one who's in need of care.

Note: This guide is to assist in setting up paid sick leave in OnPay, and doesn't cover unpaid leave requirements. It's important to note that paid sick leave is different from paid family medical leave (PFML).

States with paid leave laws

If your state is green, you must enter your PFML ID and/or contribution information in OnPay. States in orange have a paid leave law, but you don't need to provide any information. In both cases, you'll need to create a time off accrual, and assign it to covered employees in OnPay.
